Mentoring has more than one name…
In the course of my professional and academic activities, I have experienced quite a few hills.
Through the baccalaureate, flunked at the first attempt, English philology in absentia law to management ending.
All these adventures were laced with one fear, how to cope in independent professional life.
This is an issue that is affecting more and more people from my generation and younger. The key question then becomes, how to connect the dots?
Being a student, I looked for answers where I could, networking breakfasts, trainings, courses and projects offered by career offices, where I first encountered mentoring – this is where my eyes were opened. A few months of working with a person with various dilemmas proved to be the key to asking myself the most important questions.
Their construction is an ongoing process that is almost never ending, while the further into the forest one goes, the more trees there are.
So what questions did I start my search with?
1. What values do I really have?
2. What do I like to do and when do I feel good?
3. What are my weaknesses and when do I feel I lack courage?|
4. What makes me feel simply bad.
Of course, this is just a fragment, a certain decile of what you need to ask yourself. In order to enhance the effectiveness of the process, it is worth considering tools that can help us in the above process.
First, it is worth taking Miro, which is a great application for mapping thoughts and visions. However, before we start drawing, it is worth analyzing – yourself in concrete.
Here, the following may be helpful:
- SWOT analysis of yourself.
- Business model Canvas, if we see our person as a personal brand.
- Personality tests: FRIS, Gallup or even 16 personalities.
Once we have a certain set of data, it is worth starting to ask ourselves specific questions, where can I go with what I have and what I represent, what can I do to improve it, and so on and so forth…
The festival of questions is a never-ending journey – the key is to take the first step, not for the environment, not for loved ones, but for yourself.
If you need any advice, don’t be afraid to ask, there are no stupid questions, and if you want to ask me for example – go ahead, I’ll be happy to help!
